Orientation Week Social

August 6, 2015 | 5-7pm

Join AMWA in an evening of food, drink, and mingling as we welcome the women of SLU School of Medicine's Class of 2019! This orientation week social gives incoming students the opportunity to meet their peers, orientation leaders, AMWA membes, and many of the distinguished women of SLU SOM's faculty.

Dr. Susan Heaney has graciously allowed AMWA to use her beautiful home in Ladue. Due to space restrictions, this event is only intended for the women of the Class of 2019. Attire is summer casual -- summer dresses are highly recommended -- and please bear in mind that we will be outside and jeans are not appropriate.

Intro to AMWA

August 12, 2015 (TENTATIVE) | 12-1pm

At our first lunch meeting of the year, we will discuss our events for the year and how YOU can get involved with AMWA and, our biggest fundraiser of the year, Red Dress!

Lydia's House Meeting and Volunteer Day

Date and time are TBD

Lydia's House is a local organization that offers transitional housing as well as other services to victims of domestic violence. AMWA invites you to hear from a representative from Lydia's House to learn more about the issue of domestic violence. Additionally, AMWA encourages you to join us the following Saturday as we partake in a service day at Lydia's House.

Breast Cancer Awareness: Procedure Night

Date and time are TBD

This year, AMWA is introducing a new event focused on October's theme of breast cancer awareness. All participants are encouraged to wear pink during the day. Additionally, in the evening, we will be hosting a procedure night designed to teach the anatomy of breast cancer and what surgical techniques are employed in its treatment. We are still in the process of finalizing plans for this event so stay tuned for more information!

American Heart Association: Red Dress Affair

Date and time are TBD

AMWA's annual Red Dress Affair is hosted in conjunction with Washington University in St. Louis' AMWA chapter and provides an opportunity for us to raise funds and awareness on behalf of the American Heart Association (AHA). Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women and, through this collaborative event, we have been able to raise as much as $10,000 in a single night. At Red Dress, we provide food, drink, and entertainment in the form of our lip-sync dance competition and silent auction.

Women in Medicine Panel

Date and time are TBD

Taking the place of last year's women's residency panel, the Women In Medicine Panel will present stduents with the opportunity to ask questions of women in all stages of their professional careers and personal development. We hope to have fourth-year students, residents, fellows, as well as women in academic medicine, private practice, hospital administration, and more at this panel event.
